Ola CEO Bhavish Aggarwal has launched a new initiative, ‘Kya Chal Raha Hai?’, requiring employees to submit weekly updates summarizing their completed tasks. The move mirrors Elon Musk’s recent directive for US federal employees to provide weekly progress reports.

New Reporting Mandate for Ola Employees

According to an internal email, all Ola employees must send a brief report every Sunday, listing their accomplishments in 3 to 5 bullet points. These reports will be emailed to Bhavish Aggarwal and the employees’ direct managers under the subject line “Weekly Updates.”

Bhavish Aggarwal’s message, as quoted by CNBC, states:

“We’re starting ‘Kya Chal Raha Hai?’ – a simple way to share your weekly updates directly with me and your managers. Please send a brief update to your manager and Kyachalrahahai@olagroup.in with 3-5 bullet points about what you got done last week. Keep it simple and to the point.”

The policy applies to all employees without exception, with the first deadline set for the same day the announcement was made.

Comparison to Elon Musk’s Mandate

The move has drawn comparisons to Elon Musk, who recently enforced a similar requirement for US federal employees. Musk’s directive reportedly faced backlash, with many criticizing it as excessive micromanagement.

Ola Layoffs and Employee Reactions

The announcement comes at a time when Ola Electric is laying off over 1,000 employees across multiple departments, including customer relations, charging infrastructure, procurement, and fulfillment. Employees have taken to social media to express mixed reactions,

with some questioning the need for such strict reporting, while others see it as a way to improve accountability.

As Ola undergoes internal restructuring and workforce reduction, this new initiative could be a step towards increasing transparency in the company’s operations. However, whether it will be received positively by employees remains to be seen.
