Earthquake in delhi : A 4.0 magnitude earthquake shook Delhi-NCR early Monday at 5:36 AM, sending strong tremors across the region. The National Centre for Seismology (NCS) confirmed that the earthquake had a depth of five kilometers, with its epicenter near Dhaula Kuan in New Delhi.
The unexpected intensity of the tremors startled residents, with many reporting a loud rumbling sound before the quake. People rushed out of their homes in fear, and CCTV footage circulating online showed shaking buildings and swaying ceiling fans. Experts explained that the shallow depth of the quake amplified its impact, making it feel more intense than expected. The densely populated nature of Delhi also contributed to the severity of the tremors, as seismic waves travel faster in urban areas. Delhi falls under Seismic Zone IV, making it prone to moderate to strong earthquakes.
Authorities, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urged residents to stay calm and follow safety precautions. Delhi Police reassured citizens, providing emergency helpline numbers for assistance.
Seismologists noted that minor aftershocks might follow but assured that they are a natural part of the healing process after an earthquake. Officials are monitoring the situation closely, advising people to remain alert for any further developments.
