Prateik Babbar and Priya Banerjee tied the knot in an intimate ceremony, choosing to honor his late mother, legendary actress Smita Patil, in a deeply personal way.
The couple exchanged vows on Valentine’s Day in Smita Patil’s home in Bandra, Mumbai, making their wedding a heartfelt tribute to her memory. Speaking about the decision, Prateik told Vogue India, “We desired a ‘ghar ki shaadi,’ and getting married to the love of my life here—the first house that my mom bought and my home—was the best way to honor her in spirit.”
A Wedding Steeped in Tradition & Elegance
Prateik and Priya stunned in custom-made Tarun Tahiliani outfits. Priya wore a resham-embroidered fishtail skirt with crystals, sequins, pearls, and beads, paired with a structured corset. A signature crystal drape and veil completed her elegant look. Prateik embraced a traditional yet modern look, donning a silk drape shirt, a pre-stitched charmeuse dhoti, and a heavily embroidered sherwani jacket. He accessorized with a custom pearl necklace featuring Swarovski crystals.
The wedding, held in a private setting, included traditional haldi and mehendi ceremonies before the couple exchanged vows in the presence of close friends and family. The celebrations were intimate, in contrast to the usual extravagant Bollywood weddings.

Raj Babbar and Family Not Invited
Despite the joyous occasion, the wedding made headlines for an unexpected controversy—Prateik’s father, veteran actor Raj Babbar, and his stepfamily were not invited. His stepbrother, Aarya Babbar, expressed his disappointment in an interview with ETimes, stating, “Nobody from the Babbar family was invited—not even my father. I presume someone has overpowered his brain too much. He is not wanting to connect with anyone from this side of the family.”
While Aarya acknowledged that Prateik may have had reasons to exclude his stepmother Nadira Babbar, he felt that their father, Raj Babbar, should have been included.
Prateik’s complex family history has long been a topic of discussion. His mother, Smita Patil, passed away due to childbirth complications shortly after he was born, and he was raised by his maternal grandparents. Raj Babbar, who was married to Nadira Babbar when he fell in love with Smita, eventually returned to his first family and raised his children, Aarya and Juhi Babbar.
